Kholo
A mobile savings and budgeting concept for university students, designed across more than 100 screens.

The problem
Students struggled with inconsistent saving habits and premature withdrawals. Surveys and two virtual interviews informed the work, including insights into irregular income and impulsive spending.
My contribution
As Lead Product Designer, I designed the budgeting experience, including the budget generator, savings tracker, goal visualisations and monthly planner. These components connect day-to-day planning with longer-term savings goals.
Design decisions
Structured savings tiers, a clear budget dashboard, reminders and progress indicators support long-term saving. The product spans onboarding, savings plans, withdrawal logic, budgeting, job opportunities, discounted deals, transaction history and alerts.
More than a savings tool
The original concept also considers life after graduation: job discovery, student deals and resume support sit alongside saving and budgeting. That wider context matters because the financial challenge is connected to students’ confidence about what comes next.
Research & process
Affinity mapping surfaced procrastination, lack of routine and financial anxiety. Personas included the Overwhelmed Student, the Budget-in-the-Head Saver and the Aspiring Planner. User flows focused on fast setup, easy tracking and emotional reinforcement.
Outcome & next step
The prototype demonstrates a full product ecosystem. A future round of usability testing would explore saving commitment and long-term use.
Change the lens.
Start with behaviour
Surveys and two virtual interviews explored irregular income, impulsive spending and saving consistency.
